The 7th grade math teacher sent home some “homework” for the parents to write a letter about their child that they would share with the child’s other teachers. We were allowed to have the child write it with us . . . This is what we came up with:
So . . . you want to know about Sister3. I’ve heard Mom and Dad say that one of Sister3’s first words was “anemone”; little did they know that her vocabulary would progress from there.
Sister3 is up for most challenges, but she must wrap her mind around it first. When they were talking about this “homework” project, Sister3 said to put in here that she doesn’t like surprises (she does!) but not surprise tests (she really doesn’t). Sister3 decided long before I came along that she was going to be a black belt in karate and did not quit until she reached her goal. (I love to look at all her belts hanging on her wall.)
Sister3 is a hands-on and listening learner. She may look as though she isn’t paying attention and her hands are busy doing something else, but she is listening, paying attention, and learning.
To say that Sister3 reads a lot would be a gross understatement. She reads for several hours every day which leaves her less time to play with me. She is also a fast reader and comprehends what she has read. Take Harry Potter, for example. I’ve been told that she was 6 years old when she read the first book in less than 2 days. Our then 16-year-old sister, Sister1, who had read all the books several times over, thought that there was no way that Sister3 could understand what she read. Sister1 quizzed Sister3. Other than mispronouncing the names of characters (easy to do in Harry Potter’s universe), she answered every question correctly. At this point in the story, our parents always say that Sister1 was stunned.
Sister3 is a rule follower. A HUGE rule follower!!! For example, if she is told to do a, b, and c but logic would tell you to also do steps d and e, she won’t do them. As she gets older, I hope that she’ll see that this can be both a strength and weakness.
Sister3 has a good sense of humor. She is compassionate, thoughtful, and sincere. Sister3 is kind to everyone that she meets and is quite often the first to go up to a new child in school, introduce herself, and offer them any assistance they may need. She loves animals. Sister3 has the most amazing, brilliant, special, loving, athletic, adorable, and handsome dog named Thomas.
That scratches the surface of who Sister3 is and gives you something to chew on. Have a great school year!
– Thomas
