I Say What I Mean and I Mean What I Say

I Say What I Mean and I Mean What I Say

I say this often: “I say what I mean and I mean what I say.”  Well, unless I am very upset – then I may say something that I don’t mean.  I try to not do that but I don’t always succeed (who does?).  But, back to why I am writing this blog.

If you ask me a question, you will get an honest answer.  I am not sure if this is a good character trait or a character flaw.  Probably both.  It has served me well in my professional life and made parts of my jobs more difficult.  The same with my personal life – some good, some bad.

I am a literal thinker.  I take what is said to me literally.  For that reason, I do not understand a lot of poetry.  If the poem is describing a cat without using the word cat or a synonym thereof, I will not understand what the poet is talking about.  This made some English classes difficult in school.

I am not a “read between the lines” person.  I take what people say at face value.  If you are beating around the bush about something, you are out of luck with me.  I won’t grasp what you are trying to tell me.

With my brain this way, I have no tact.  That’s a blog for a later date. . .
