My Best Ideas and Thinking

My Best Ideas and Thinking

I don’t know about you, but my best thinking happens in the shower. I think that the combination of the warmth of the water, the sound of the water, and the actual water helps my mind relax allowing the thoughts and ideas to flow, well, like water. I come up with so many good thoughts and ideas that I have waterproof paper and a waterproof pencil in there with me. I learned over the years that waiting to write things down after the shower didn’t work because once the water stopped flowing, so did the ideas.

Not only have I come up with most of my blog subjects in the shower, but I have also been able to solve some problems, learn about myself and others, and figure out answers for which I have searched. Many cultures believe that water is magical and I would have to agree.

The other time that a lot of great ideas and epiphanies happen to me is when I am about to fall asleep. So, yes, I also keep a pad of paper on the nightstand so that I can write these things down.

The worst time ideas occur to me, though, is when I wake up in the middle of the night or incredibly early morning. Those are the thoughts and ideas that keep me awake. My mind goes into overdrive. The thoughts don’t stop. I am not as good about it because I am tired but writing them down usually calms my mind enough that I can go back to sleep. These are the tricky ones to read the next day, though, because I am writing in the dark while extremely tired. Some mornings I look at the note and think, “What the heck does that say?” Then I have to be happy knowing that writing it down, no matter how profound it seemed hours earlier, was enough to let me go back to sleep.
