Gravity and a Full-Length Mirror

Gravity and a Full-Length Mirror      –

WARNING – To my female readers “of a certain age” who have chosen to age naturally, DO NOT under any circumstances stand a foot or so away from your full-length mirror then bend or lean toward the mirror and reach for something!!!!! You WILL be more frightened by what you see than ever before. Your brain cannot handle seeing that. It is terrifying.

When I made that mistake, I initially wondered who that saggy, crepe skin covered older woman was and how she got into my bathroom. When she jumped back at the same instant that I jumped back, I realized that it was me. I wasn’t quite sure what I had seen. Was that really me? I laughed and cried at the same time.

It reminded me of the Golden Girls episode where Dorothy tells Blanche to never be on top. She goes on to tell Blanche to look at herself in a mirror at that angle. Blanche grabs a mirror. Dorothy tells her to “take a sedative before” she looks. Blanche wonders how different it could be leaning over. Per Blanche, “OH MY GOD! Dorothy why didn’t you tell me about this before?” Dorothy tells her, “Only on your back, Blanche. That way everything slides back and you look like you just had a facelift.” Dorothy then proceeds to remind Blanche “that not only does your face fall back, but your chest does, too . . . off and to the side.”

Aging is not for the weak. If you have a sense of humor, it is a lot easier, though. You can point at that old woman in the mirror and laugh with her.
