HUMAN GROWTH
This post is about MY BELIEFS. My opinions. My thoughts. Not everyone will agree with what I write. That is okay. As humans we can disagree and still get along.
This is NOT a discussion about God. I do believe in God. I believe that God gave humans free will and the ability to make their own decisions, right or wrong. God also gave humans knowledge and the ability to teach as well as learn.
I also believe that God doesn’t make mistakes.
I believe in science.
My belief in God AND science go hand-in-hand. There are things that have happened that cannot be explained by science. And there are things that have happened that can be explained by science.
Science proves that humans, and humanity, are always evolving, changing, and growing. This will never stop. For example, humans used to be much shorter than we are now. We used to primarily stay in the geographical location where we were born. We have learned different things, invented things, and discovered things that change humanity and how we live.
The definitions/names of most everything that we know were created by humans. Therefore, how we describe those things was created by humans and the labels that we tend to put on people were created by humans. Whether they be nice or mean, tall or short, fat or thin, seeing or blind . . . humans created those words and descriptions.
All humans were created for a reason. Some to teach by example, words, and/or actions. Some to broaden the minds of others and make them think. Every human serves a purpose. Every human being matters.
Humans have free will to choose their actions. Sometimes that means taking measures to change themselves. That decision is up to each individual. People who decide to change a part of themselves, whether that be their behavior, their looks, their gender, or any other emotional, psychological, or physical part of their body are brave. Some people get upset when a person alters their body but rarely does anyone say a word when they wear colored contact lenses to change their eye color. Or braces to straighten their teeth. For humans it is too often about the way you look, not how you feel. If we put as much emphasis on how humans feel, the world would be a much better place.
For me the first major change that I made was in my personality. Those who know me now will probably be shocked by this but I grew up very shy. I was quiet when I was uncomfortable, which was often. I cried when someone looked at me “funny”. I never looked people in the eye. We moved to a new town right before high school and, other than my family, I knew no one. I made the decision to no longer be that painfully shy, reserved, scared-of-everything-and-everyone teenager. I lived the “fake it ‘til you make it” philosophy. It took a while, but it worked.
Being comfortable in your body is very difficult for a lot of people. (It always has been for me. I was never the feminine, petite, graceful girl/woman that my mom was and that I saw on TV.)
Some people change their body to match their feelings and their beliefs in themselves. Some people change their beliefs and feelings to match their body. Neither way is wrong because we were given the ability and the choice to do those things.
If you truly care for someone, you want them to be happy, comfortable, proud, and accepting of themselves. And that is all that should matter. I was once told who I could and could not marry. My response was if you love me, you will accept the person that I fall in love with and marry.
Humanity is fluid and ever changing. The world as a whole has changed a lot in the past century. Evolution cannot be explained, we only know that it will continue. I trust and believe that humans will continue to change and my faith in humankind (and, yes, God) is what keeps me hopeful, loving, laughing, and positive.
