Fake It Until You Make It
My child’s Karate instructor always told the kids, “Fake it until you make it.” As far as karate was concerned, I assumed that was a way to get the kids to keep trying.
I have recently seen that saying a lot on social media. I am not sure how I feel about this. If it IS advice to keep trying and moving forward, I agree. If it is to pretend that everything is alright when it is not, then I do not agree.
For me, pretending to be happy when I was not happy was detrimental to both my mental and physical health. Happiness comes from within. Period. Yes, people, places, things around you can add to that happiness or increase that happiness, but they cannot make you happy. They can make you happier.
It isn’t easy to find happiness within yourself. Just this morning I saw this:
You will never speak to anyone more than you
speak to yourself in your head.
Be kind to yourself.
Truer words have never been spoken.
