LYING –

LYING

Lying is a full-time job.

Once you tell a lie, you must remember that lie forever. If you tell more lies it compounds and you not only have to remember them forever, but you also need to make sure that they don’t contradict your prior lie(s). Whew! That is exhausting just typing it.

Why do people lie? There are a bunch of reasons:

  • To get what they want.
  • To avoid hurting someone else’s feelings.
  • To hide what they really did.
  • To make themselves seem better, stronger, more important, etc. to boost their ego.
  • To cover for someone else.
  • To get out of doing something that they don’t want to do. (By the way, “no” is a perfectly good reply.)
  • To try to stay out of legal trouble.

The list goes on and on.

Is lying worth it? For me, lying is NOT worth it. It is too time-consuming and, personally, I feel guilty, horrible, and angry with myself after I have done it.

I can hear you saying . . . “But the truth hurts sometimes.” Yes, it does. But if you truly care about someone, isn’t it better to tell them the truth? They will understand that you told the truth and, while they may not like it right then, they will come around and understand that telling you the truth was one way you show them that you really care.
